Job Overview:

The Transport Manager will oversee the transport and dispatch functions, focusing on employee development, fleet management, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers. This role emphasises driving cost efficiencies while maintaining a strong customer-centric approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify risks and opportunities, and implement innovative solutions to enhance logistics delivery
  • Source external freight carriers that meet safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory standards to fulfill customer objectives.
  • Implement processes and controls for Allocators, Drivers, and Dispatch Staff to manage customer service and communication effectively.
  • Manage the transport and dispatch team in line with business goals, overseeing the organisation and prioritisation of daily workload and staffing needs to meet production goals for the transport division.
  • Provide strong leadership to develop team members and leverage operating systems and communication tools.
  • Analyze service issues and implement changes to enhance service quality.
  • Organize and prioritize daily work orders and staffing needs to meet production targets.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental, vehicle and license requirements.
  • Manage third-party logistics (3PL) providers such as Qantas, Air-Road, Star Track, and Border Express to ensure cost-effectiveness, budget control, service excellence, and the smooth management of purchase orders.
  • Focus on controlling costs and improving KPIs to enhance efficiency, lower operating costs, and increase profit margins while meeting budget expectations.
  • Champion a ‘customer first’ approach, ensuring best-in-class customer service is delivered.
  • Strategically plan driver resources and manage administrative processes.
  • Ensure fleet operations comply with legislative requirements.
  • Maintain close interaction with the customer service department to ensure service delivery standards are always met.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to integrate and optimise logistics solutions.
  • Analyse service failures and improve processes to enhance service quality

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of prior management experience in transport and logistics.
  • A diploma or degree in transport logistics is desirable
  • Exceptional team management and leadership skills
  • Solid knowledge of supply chain management
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Experienced in utilising industry-focused track and trace software/system package
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a very high-pressure environment
