The Operations Supervisor is responsible for implementing and supervising Operations and business development activities.  He/She develops proposals and contracts to acquire new customer accounts. This position compiles customer and service provider requirements to create master operating plans (MOPs). He/She supports operations planning activities (i.e., implement new business, maintain existing business, and manage service expectations). The Operations Supervisor coordinates financial management activities, seeks process improvement opportunities to ensure profitability.

The Operations Supervisor determines employees’ training needs to produce continuous development. He/She collaborates with service providers (i.e., external carriers) to implement new business, maintain existing business, and manage service expectations. This position filters escalated calls to appropriate groups (e.g., Claims, Billing Inquiries, etc.) to support customer problem or inquiry resolutions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides rate quotes for pricing requests to support volume growth
  • Measures entry performance for freight customer orders, shipment status, and non-operational freight data to ensure service expectations and costs are maintained
  • Develops contact agreements with customers and service providers to establish scopes of work, business, and billing requirements, pricing agreements, payment and contractual terms, claims and liability, and general terms and conditions
  • Arranges carrier visits with customers to ensure the MOP is finalized and approved
  • Conducts internal and external customers training to educate on products and services
  • Audits and approves weekly invoices for customer accounts to ensure accurate billing
  • Generates reports (e.g., daily shipment activities, service exceptions, cost-savings, etc.) through planning to ensure profitability and customer service levels are met

Knowledge and Skills

  • Captures/documents specific and accurate information; learns subjects thoroughly and in detail; completes work with thoroughness; supplies appropriate details when requested; maintains organized files
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of proper processes, procedures, and use of technology for intermodal transportation
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of supply chain concepts; identifies issues within a supply chain
  • Must have experience capturing document specific and accurate information
  • Bachelor’s degree (or internationally comparable degree) – Preferred
  • Sales experience - Preferred
