The Customs and Trade Compliance Assistant Manager works across functions to monitor compliance-related performance of UPS cross-border operations to ensure processes are effective and efficient. He/she supports programs to identify compliance gaps and develop corrective actions, assists in identifying critical skill gaps in UPS cross-border Operations, and monitors regulatory changes affecting cross-border operations. This is a newly-created position with opportunities for advancement.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Drives Customs and Trade Compliance Programs

  • Works across functions involved in UPS cross-border operations to identify current and future compliance needs, and to establish compliance programs.

  • Creates and monitors compliance-related metrics to ensure cross-border processes and procedures are effective, compliant, and address identified deficiencies.

  • Identifies root causes for deficiencies and recommends corrective actions to ensure compliance with customs and other government agency regulations.

Supervises the Resolution of Compliance Issues

  • Reviews and interprets regulatory changes to educate cross-border operations on new and revised regulations, and their implications for UPS cross-border operations.

  • Responds to compliance problems and works across functions to identify appropriate actions.

  • Reviews internal and external information to remain current on regulatory updates.

  • Attends meetings and seminars to identify issues and expand knowledge of legal, regulatory and compliance knowledge.

  • Monitors compliance-related performance to ensure programs and processes impacting compliance are effective and up-to-date.

Conducts Audits

  • Travels onsite to conduct audits.

  • Analyzes audit results to identify root causes for deficiencies and to recommend corrective actions.

  • Presents audit results to management.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Political Science, Law, or related field

  • Brokerage license preferred

  • 5-6 years of work experience in relevant field (legal, regulatory, compliance, logistics)

  • Strong project management skills

  • Effective presentation and communication skills in English

  • Attention to detail

  • Multicultural agility
