Job Summary
This position helps in the preparation and review of external financial reports to be filed with federal regulatory agencies (e.g., Securities Exchange Commission (SEC)). The incumbent supports the company's Investor Relations Department by preparing quarterly/annual internal reports as requested. This position is expected to have a strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and SEC reporting requirements. The incumbent is responsible for working with the company's external/internal auditors and coordinating audit requests with other business groups to ensure quarterly/year-end reviews are completed timely. This role supervises others within the department.
Responsibilities
- Interprets financial reports and other company records to support the external auditing process
- Conducts accounting research and assists in implementing new accounting pronouncements
- Resolves individual/group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork
- Determines employees’ training needs to produce continuous development plans
- Provides documentation to support the external auditing process and works with other groups to obtain the requested audit support
- Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement
- Researches and prepares footnotes, supports documents to assist in the completion of regulatory filings and quarterly/annual financial statements
- Performs accounting research as necessary to ensure compliance with relevant accounting principles (i.e. GAAP)
Preferences
- Demonstrates business and accounting knowledge, describes methods in compliance with GAAP
- Maintains organized files, documents specific and accurate information; learns subjects thoroughly and in detail; completes work with thoroughness and supplies appropriate details when requested
- Demonstrates an understanding of basic financial terminology and concepts such as cash flows, operating profit/loss, and net income
- Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification
- Experience supervising others
- Experience working in the Big 4 Accounting firms (Deloitte, PWC, Ernst & Young and KPMG)
