UPS Human Resources (HR) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Analyst to analyze data and assist with the development of new reports. He/She provides data to senior and mid-level HR management to assist with evaluating UPS human capital, and analyzes and forecasts data to address solutions for a successful business plan. The HR Business Analyst organizes data in various formats (e.g. graphs, charts, etc.) to meet requestor’s needs, and reviews report information to verify adequate data is provided when fulfilling requests. He/She compares, contrasts, and analyzes internal and external data to ensure critical performance elements are identified, as well as dissects information to identify potential causes for performance fluctuations (e.g. increasing turnover in a particular region, etc.). This position supports the Human Resources dashboard to display the latest employee trends and predictive measures (e.g. internal and external staffing, data analysis, workforce processes, etc.).

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Clarifies data requests to ensure the end product meets the requestor’s needs
  • Evaluates and analyzes data to determine additional methods and approaches for capturing the data requested by senior management
  • Identifies effective methods of collecting information, generating reports, and presenting data to senior management to assist the HR function
  • Recommends methods for improving data manipulation and summarization techniques to effectively present results
  • Reviews data generated from reports to identify discrepancies
  • Manipulates retrieved data to ensure reports are presented in a user-friendly format

Knowledge and Skills

  • Identifies key information sources, assesses information quality, and understands and communicates limitations; relates and compares information from different sources; manages large amounts of data and appropriately applies data reduction and exploratory analysis techniques; makes logical assumptions; challenges own findings and documents process and outcomes; audits own analyses and determines their validity
  • Identifies key factors behind basic problems and establishes path to solve them; proposes approaches to solve more complicated problems; investigates and diagnoses anomalies in routine business results
  • Demonstrates an understanding of ways to identify and measure current needs of the customer or business; uses business needs to define project requirements
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of how to conduct customer analysis using common sources of information to identify customer facts and trends
  • Distinguishes between “big picture” concepts and comments and specialized, smaller specific facts associated with work; notes the specifics of events and experiences; explains, in general, how details impact end goals or outcomes; ensures that work is completed accurately and with the appropriate level of detail
  • Generates reports in appropriate format using basic software; reviews reports to ensure accuracy and completeness; identifies problems with report generation (e.g., missing variables, incorrect data, etc.)
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information; identifies appropriate sources of information
  • Previous experience in Human Resources or Finance & Accounting - Preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree ( or internationally comparable degree) in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or Marketing - Preferred
  • Experience supervising others - Preferred
