School to Work

UPS School to Work (STW) is an exemplary work-based learning program that provides a rich context for using skills learned at school. It is designed to provide high school seniors with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and to earn college credit. All high school students work at UPS during their school day hours and receive high school elective credit for participating in the program. With approximately 400 high school students beginning the program each year, the School to Work Department and management teams are committed to ensuring the success of students.

Program Overview 

Students will have the opportunity enroll in a Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) course (paid for by UPS) or an extended academic course during the fall and spring semesters of their senior year. Student will have an opportunity to take general education college courses that may transfer to most post-secondary institutions. These courses include English 101, Business, Algebra, Basic Public Speaking, Business, Humanities, and others. In addition, The School to Work Program provides a pathway to connect secondary and post-secondary education. Two post-secondary educational opportunities that UPS offers are Metropolitan College and Earn & Learn.

What's a Typical Day for a STW Student?

  • Students receive a weekly paycheck and full health, dental, and vision benefits after nine months . These students will also accrue paid time off during their first year of employment.
  • Students attend high school for two to three hours each morning to complete graduation requirements.
  • Work at UPS from approximately 11:30 am – 3:30 pm.
  • After work attend a college or extended academic course taught by a JCTC professor on-site at the UPS Training and Education Center (UPSTEC) two times per week.
