Job Summary

UPS, a global leader in logistics and the world’s largest transportation services company, seeks college students to apply for the UPS Communications summer internship in the UPS Washington, DC office of Public Affairs. The program is designed to attract and develop mature, intelligent communicators with a long-term desire to pursue a career in strategic communications, policy or political communications, or a similar field. This position performs other career related responsibilities as assigned.

The internship will run from May 2023 through August 2023 – and is a full-time, time-limited position. Applicants should have a background that includes undergraduate school experience in communications, public relations, journalism, social media or other writing-intensive field. The incumbent will support the company’s thought leadership positioning through external communications focused on UPS’s three-pillar strategy, Customer First, People Led and Innovation Driven.

Responsibilities

  • Supports policy communications team in state, federal and international markets
  • Performs research and writing assignments, assists with social media or newsletters
  • Supports the development, design and production of visual design
  • Brings outside the box thinking and creativity while remaining consistent with UPS brand and communication style
  • Designs and adapts content to be used across all channels (including social media, speeches, digital displays, print, video etc.)
  • Demonstrates responsibility for producing quality work, on time, with exceptional attention to detail
  • Provides general administrative and other support, as needed

Preferences

  • Possesses a long-term desire for a career in communications, public relations, social media, public policy or government affairs
  • Provides work samples indicating their ability to create advertisements and social media graphics in other programs
  • Displays ability to work well under pressure and multi-task effectively/independently are critical to job success
  • Demonstrates strong writing, editing, research and analytical skills
  • Possesses strong communication (verbal/written) skills and the aptitude to synthesize information, while adhering to firm deadlines, is also critical
  • Understands earned/owned media, policy and thought leadership communications, and advancing a company’s business/reputation goals
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop
