Job Description:

UPS Capital is seeking an experienced Accountant II to ensure accounting transactions are properly recorded, posted, processed, and reported.He/She completes day-to-day maintenance to ensure thorough and accurate general ledgers. This position prepares, analyzes, and processes journal entries. He/She performs and reviews standard month-end entries. The Accountant II communicates and documents accounting procedures for specialized accounting and financial transactions. Compensation: This is an hourly paying position that is likely to offer in the range of $28-33/hourly.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Reviews account balances to validate line item transactions
  • Performs account reconciliation queries to ensure each expense is accounted for and each total balances correctly to the GL
  • Keys invoice data into database
  • Runs queries on the database to generate analysis on customer & vendor invoices
  • Sets up new vendors (banking, address, terms, misc. remittance information)
  • Manages existing vendors and updates information as necessary (address, banking, etc.)
  • Applies basic accounting and financial knowledge to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Audits standard month-end entries to confirm accuracy and correct account balances
  • Uses internal system tools to complete detailed financial analysis
  • Provides ad hoc queries and testing support to assist with systems processing and implementation
  • Recommends process updates to utilize in training, process documentation, and compliance policies

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of accounting theory and principles
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of industry and financial trends impacting UPS and/or customers’ organizations; identifies the organizational structure and functions within a business
  • Identifies the business problem that requires research; identifies sources of information that are relevant to a problem; reviews literature and data related to the research question; summarizes information from data sources
  • Plans and completes work with thoroughness, giving attention to specific information, and individual details, conditions, necessary record keeping, and elements of that work
  • Captures/documents specific and accurate information; learns subjects thoroughly and in detail; completes work with thoroughness; supplies appropriate details when requested; maintains organized files
  • Reads and interprets financial statements; evaluates data to determine financial patterns, tendencies and trends; develops business cases using financial information. Demonstrates an understanding of basic financial terminology and concepts
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of the functions, regulations, and procedures of compliance agencies or governing bodies; takes a leadership position in programs that reduce risk and enhance safety
  • Generates reports in appropriate format using basic software; reviews reports to ensure accuracy and completeness; identifies issues with report generation (e.g., missing variables, incorrect data, etc.)
  • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) - Preferred
