Job Summary

The Aviation Security Officer ensures facilities within a particular country or territory comply with relevant regulatory requirements and UPS Standards. This position serves as the single point of contact for Appropriate Authorities (AAs) and represents UPS as a member of industry associations. He/She documents aviation security incidents and takes appropriate corrective action steps.

Job Responsibilities

Supervises the Aviation Security Department by territory

  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the designated screening area (DSA) operations to ensure compliance in aviation security operational procedures.
  • Coordinates staff activities through frequent On-the-Job-Supervision (OJS) and performance reviews to ensure compliance.
  • Ensures appropriate group training to update latest aviation security regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Acts where applicable as authority approved trainer for the country or territory to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops the local aviation security business plan and monitors / reports monthly financial results to ensure cost is appropriated, planned, and contained.

Delivers and Maintains the Country Aviation Security Program status

  • Ensures compliance of the Aviation Security Program (ASP) to ensure changes in regulations and operations are adapted accordingly.
  • Measures compliance to local regulatory requirements to ensure business continuity.
  • Ensures UPS sites are compliant to appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Acts as the single point of contact for the applicable Appropriate Authorities (AAs) to address aviation security related matters.
  • Manages approval process with the AA for changes in AVSEC operations.
  • Manages approval process with the AA to make changes in aviation security operations.

Creates the UPS Aviation Security Local Operating Plan (LOP)

  • Understands and executes LOPs to ensure operational compliance and business continuity.
  • Supports Industrial Engineering to develop site specific LOPs.
  • Creates LOPs to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Acts as a liaison to support other functions with Aviation Security responsibilities.

Provides Communication, Guidance, and Direction on AVSEC issues

  • Manages communication to the Country/District Managers, Business Risk and Compliance Committee, and other function stakeholders to foster inter-departmental collaboration with regards to aviation security issues.
  • Manages vendor relations and department cost for the country or territory to ensure performance standards are maintained.
  • Understands the common carriage network to ensure aviation security compliance in the territory assigned.
  • Represents UPS as member of industry and trade associations to be up-to-date on any Aviation Security related agenda topics.


Supervises Aviation Security Incidents

  • Anticipates and addresses potential threats to pro-actively ensure business continuity.
  • Develops procedures designed to safeguard territory or operations to identify resources and tools used to monitor, patrol, and report emergency situations.
  • Coaches and trains people in response to security breaches to ensure consistency and legal requirements are met.

Supervises Quality Assurance Program

  • Facilitates internal/external audits and compliance inspections.to ensure facilities are operating in compliance.
  • Implements quality assurance controls to measure compliance and ensure business continuity.
  • Monitors the implementation and adherence to corrective action plans to ensure success.
  • Encourages cross-functional involvement to foster a collaborative approach.

Supervises and Develops Others

  • Determines employees’ training needs to produce continuous development plans.
  • Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance.
  • Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement.
  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals.
  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.

Job Requirements


  • Possess a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Technology, or IT Security related discipline.    
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in security or related field in conducting investigations, conducting Risk Management assessments and developing security awareness programs coming from Transportation/Airport industry.
  • At least 5 years of successful people management experience.    
  • Understanding of Local Security requirements and Customs knowledge is required.
  • Candidate whom possess Legal or Regulatory knowledge is preferred.    
  • Self-starter, highly motivated with exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to develop and implement companywide projects and programs.    
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and able to work well with people of all levels (including vendors and law enforcers).
  • Require demonstrated skills in MS Office Programs (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint).
