Job Title: Formal Rater Dayside

Job Summary: Initiates assignment of harmonized tariff number/duty rates on import shipments into the United States
Job Description: Direct contact with importers to obtain essential information needed for customs clearance. Must follow up throughout the day to obtain needed information for clearance. Run completed work reports at end of shift. Secure pertinent details on importing commodities from U.S. consignees via e-mail and telephone communications. Possess thorough knowledge of U.S. importing requirements and the ability to gain this information by using extensive resources. Make mathematical calculations and ensure proper questions are posed to the consignee and/or shipper regarding origin functions values and the end use of the goods being imported. Advise importer of customs charges and additional UPS charges when applicable toward clearance of goods requiring special attention; ex: Fish and Wildlife agriculture marking, Food and Drug submissions and to complete all required forms and declarations as required by law. Establish contacts with frequent importers. Prioritize work to meet port specific deadlines.
Required Skills: Must have acceptable score in most recent ATPA for all performance elements (i.e. productivity and accuracy) or at accuracy and production level on TIP. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Candidate must have acceptable attendance record. Maximum of 4 concerns within a 6 month period. Able to work additional hours as needed. Must be able to work holidays.
Additional skills: Preferred candidate would have current Brokerage Rating experience. College degree is preferred. Ability to speak foreign language, Spanish or French is desired.

Work Environment: The brokerage is a 24x7 operation. Staffing consists of full and part time employees. Brokerage is responsible for clearing international air shipments that are entering the U.S. Dress code is standard UPS Flexible business attire (Denim permitted). Candidate for this position will be working in a group of approximately twenty employees.
Additional Notes: (Limited) Flex time 15 minutes. Job Freeze from Oct 1 - Dec 31.
**Six Months position lock on this position.
