The US Marketing Data Analytics Senior Analyst is responsible for the maintenance and creation of the solutions needed to support Marketing Analytics projects, and develop analyses to drive growth strategies. This includes developing requirements for solutions, collaborating cross-functionally, and working to develop and support various applications. Additionally, this position is responsible for generating analyses for ad hoc requests and reporting, generating actionable insights and results to support Marketing strategies.

The Data Analytics Senior Analyst requires a range of technical and analytical skills to allow the candidate to effectively support the development of applications, tools and analyses. He/She has a strong understanding of data (internal and external), visualization tools, programming languages, frameworks and applications to support projects and make recommendations on best course of action. This position synthesizes, analyzes and draws out compelling insights to support strategies for all levels of analysis from multiple perspectives. He/She manages requests for analytical support from US Marketing, documents business requirements for systems enhancements. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conducts analysis on large data sets (e.g. appropriately applies data reduction and exploratory analysis techniques) to evaluate, quantify, and prioritize marketing issues, problems and opportunities
  • Designs and implements communications plans to ensure those affected by projects are informed and updated
  • Develops concise and compelling documents and presentations to be reviewed with upper management
  • Develops detailed documentation on all processes designed or maintained by the analyst
  • Manages projects, including schedule, start-up/design, building and deployment to see projects from end to end
  • Balances multiple projects and deployment schedules to meet stakeholder goals and objectives
  • Gathers Information from Stakeholders to clarify and understand requests
  • Builds and maintains tools/applications (within team or cross-functionally) to meet marketing objectives
  • Provides roll-out, follow-up and on-going training for tools/applications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Applies Information Analysis & Solution Generation Knowledge: Identifies key information sources, assesses information quality, and understands and communicates limitations; relates and compares information from different sources; manages large amounts of data and appropriately applies data reduction and exploratory analysis techniques; makes logical assumptions; challenges own findings and documents process and outcomes; audits own analyses and determines their validity
  • Applies Problem Definition & Structuring Knowledge: Adept at thoroughly defining problems and structuring analytical paths to solving them; disaggregates problems into key issues to efficiently solve them; selects efficient analytical approaches that fit the situation
  • Applies Internal Systems Knowledge: Understands UPS products, services, and internal systems: asks appropriate questions to gain clear understanding of system issues; documents and clearly communicate system issues to appropriate groups (e.g. Information Services, User Reps, TSG, system users, etc.)
  • Applies Knowledge of Segmenting and Targeting: Applies analytics and logic to select and recommend target segments; identifies and completes processes to classify customers and prospects into targeted segments; profiles needs, expectations, and business processes of firms in target segments; able to create succinct, customer centric value statements focused on the most salient product/service benefits supported by solid customer insights
  • Project Planning: Demonstrates an understanding of basic project planning processes, including planning action items and resources
  • Project Management: Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately
  • Finance Knowledge: Accurately reads and interprets financial reports and statements; demonstrates an understanding of relevant financial measures, revenue and cost drivers; applies financial analysis to recommend solutions that support business objectives
  • Develops Marketing Objectives and Strategies: Demonstrates understanding of the hierarchy, relationships, and required consistency between levels of objectives and strategies (corporate, marketing, and segment); identifies potential marketing objectives and strategies along with the rationale for each
  • Statistical Analysis: Demonstrates a basic knowledge of statistical terminology and understanding of analyses and/or tests (e.g. measures of central tendency, standard deviation, correlation, analysis of variance (ANOVA), simple linear regression, significance testing, etc.); displays the ability to calculate basic statistics
  • Experience demonstrating proficiency using Microsoft Access (e.g., create tables, append, update and delete queries, create cross-tab queries and VBA automation)
  • Experience demonstrating proficiency using Microsoft Excel (e.g., Pivot tables, V-look ups, database creation/maintenance, VBA automation, etc.) 
  • Experience in T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, or other relational database management 
  • Experience using Power BI or other data visualization applications - Preferred
  • Experience in C, Python, R, or other high level programming language - Preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Sciences or related field - Preferred
  • Master’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) - Preferred
