UPS is seeking an Automation and Robotics Procurement Specialist who works with internal cross-functional teams and the automation industry to provide research and strategic sourcing activities to support the acquisition of new technologies and process improvement for UPS.
The Automation and Robotics Procurement Specialist conducts market research in the diverse market of autonomy, product discovery and review, data collection, analysis/reporting, supplier qualification and measurement efforts to support the acquisition of new technologies in an ever evolving autonomous and robotic world. He/She also assists with improvements to current internal processes as well as the implementation of new processes to maximize operational efficiencies.
The Automation and Robotics Procurement Specialist provides end-user support and maintenance to numerous databases used within UPS One Procurement. He/She may also develop and maintain relationships with UPS customers and suppliers. Additionally, the Automation and Robotics Procurement Specialist works closely with multiple functions within UPS as both a contributing member of the team and as an observer, with the intention of learning the strategic sourcing process at a more detailed level.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Helps develop category strategic sourcing plans to ensure continuous process improvement
- Creates complex spreadsheets, documents, reports and presentations using e-procurement tools
- Reviews and updates purchase orders for accuracy to support the buying function
- Supports operational automation end users in their daily functions as needed
- Performs economic research and prepares analyses (e.g., negotiable spend, supplier financial analysis, Total Cost of Ownership, financial models, etc.) to identify qualified suppliers and evaluate supplier reliability
- Supports team in identifying ways to reduce costs through competitive sourcing initiatives
- Processes supplier invoices to support prompt payment on complicated projects
- Supports and enforces Procurement policies to ensure compliance
Knowledge and Skills
- Skilled at understanding mechanical equipment and identifying basic measurement requirements
- Demonstrates ability to use multiple methods to measure performance; sets meaningful goals and objectives
- Understands basic project planning processes, including planning action items and resources
- Generates reports in appropriate format using basic software; reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness; identifies issues (e.g., missing variables, incorrect data, etc.)
- Recognizes the impact of technology on UPS business, services and processes; identifies technological barriers; maintains appropriate technological knowledge
- Extremely proficient in MS Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
- Experience using a research problem to guide relevant data gathering and benchmarking
- Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Engineering or other technical degree - Preferred
- Experience with vendor sourcing - Preferred
- Experience with negotiations - Preferred
- Experience with contract management - Preferred
