The Corporate Public Relations (PR) Director will bridge the needs of today’s digital and mobile world with expertise in traditional public relations and social media. He/She should be versed in developing and leading in-house and agency teams responsible for executing fully integrated campaigns that cover paid, earned, social and owned channels. The successful candidate will have a proven track record using media relations and social media to strengthen brand and reputation, revenue generation, content strategies and he/she will understand technologies and measurement strategies for earned and social channels

The PR Director develops strategic initiatives to increase awareness of UPS's global products & services and promotes a positive corporate image of UPS’s customer and product capabilities and solutions. For public relations campaigns, the PR Director develops, guides and implements strategies to increase news media coverage and influencer relationships. He/She ensures strategic alignment with the marketing and new product development teams, plus the customer communications and sales communications teams. For social media, he/she manages a team responsible for creating campaigns, social content, tagging, tracking and measurement, as well as guiding digital agency resources to develop social media strategies for paid and earned social media amplification.    

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Creates and oversees development of short- and long-term externally-focused PR strategies that incorporate international business, cultural, and media practices to advance and enhance UPS's reputation
  • Develops social media strategy for the company in close coordination with other functions and business units, ensuring the company's key business priorities and main messages are persistently executed and measured
  • Cultivates deep understanding of the company's business model, strategic direction, and corporate goals to develop long-term communications plans
  • Prepares fact sheets, Q&As, etc., to educate media on international business issues and UPS capabilities
  • Promotes and guides the development of thought leadership materials in support of segment business objectives for placement in publications to reach targeted customer segments
  • Coordinates between functions, on a fast-track basis, to respond to news media under tight deadlines to enhance and protect UPS’s reputation
  • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Quality Performance Review [QPR], Career Development, Succession Planning, Salary Administration, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day-to-day administration of processes and formal procedures
  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to direct, motivate and inspire a diverse set of PR managers, supervisors, and administrative professionals on common goals
  • Experience having led consulting engagements with the public relations and social media agencies
  • Ability to lead content and strategy on the company’s main social media properties and for coordination and support of other business units or global regions and with multiple agencies who work on the company’s behalf
  • Experience developing strategic initiatives to increase awareness across global products and/or services, while promoting a positive corporate image of customer and product capabilities and solutions
  • Experience writing and editing press materials and social media posts (e.g., press releases, talking points, Q&A's, position papers, bylines, social posts and other externally-focused documents)
  • Familiarity or experience with Meltwater, Sprinklr, Percolate, Adobe Marketing Suite and Photoshop - Preferred
