UPS is seeking a dynamic Operational Technology Security (OTSEC) Specialist to join our Plant Engineering team and evaluate, configure, test, and deploy security system software and hardware solutions. He/She is responsible for implementing solutions to protect material handling systems. The PE OT Security Specialist reports to an Operational Technology Security Supervisor and works with consultants, vendors, interns, college co-ops, and technical writers.

The OT Security Specialist tests applications to ensure that designs meet security requirements, business needs, and are cost effective. He/She uses technical knowledge, experience, and reference materials (e.g., websites, manuals, books, etc.) to assist in the design and development of optimal solutions that work in accordance with the overall system business requirements. The PE OT Security Specialist handles calls from internal customers’ in regards to software/hardware issues.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides IT security-related desk side support to local users
  • Assists with security projects such as deployment of new security patches, security enhancements, and the obsolescence and replacement of critical systems
  • Performs patch management including testing/verification, staging, deployment and subsequent reporting of the current patch status and readiness
  • Tests and implements disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans
  • Assists with penetration testing and works with penetration testing teams
  • Attends staff training on latest information security procedures and practices

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates awareness of potential security issues and concerns, assists in implementation of security policies and procedures, user log-on and authentication rules, and security breach escalation procedures
  • Knowledge of system security techniques and standards
  • Knowledge of basic networking principles and network topologies
  • Demonstrates general understanding and use of grammatical rules, expresses ideas clearly, and uses effective writing as it relates to job duties
  • Demonstrates knowledge of database maintenance principles, identifies users’ requirements and needs with guidance from others, and demonstrates a basic understanding of the importance of maintaining and updating databases 
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Technology or 3+ years comparable work experience - Preferred
  • Certifications in Information Security and IT disciplines such as MTA, Network+, A+ certification, etc., or 1+ years comparable work experience - Preferred
  • Experience using Delphi, Free Pascal, C, C++, Visual C, Java, Java Script, SQL, Python, BASH, PowerShell, etc. - Preferred
  • Experience with Systems Integration of Material Handling Systems (CCD cameras, laser scanners, programmable logic controllers, embedded control devices, and other peripherals) - Preferred
