Job Summary

The Media Relations Healthcare Director is a senior leader on the UPS Media Relations, Investor Communications, and Crisis and Issues Management (MIC) team. This position is responsible for developing proactive and reactive communications strategies in support of the company’s Healthcare business. The incumbent develops and leads in-house and agency teams responsible for executing fully integrated campaigns that cover paid, earned, social and owned channels. This position requires a proven track record using media relations and social media to strengthen brand and reputation, revenue generation, and content strategies. The role requires an advanced understanding of earned media strategies and tactics, as well as earned media measurement strategies.

Media Relations Healthcare Director develops strategic initiatives to increase awareness of UPS Healthcare’s global products & services and promotes a positive corporate image of UPS’s customer and product capabilities and solutions. The successful candidate will develop, guide, and implement strategies to increase news media coverage and influencer relationships within the Healthcare arena. This position ensures strategic alignment with the UPS Healthcare marketing team, and strong collaboration with all UPS communication channel leaders and teams.


  • Creates and oversees development of short/long-term externally focused media relations strategies that incorporate international business, cultural, media practices to advance and enhance UPS Healthcare’s reputation
  • Manages an agency relationship and creates business partnerships across the UPS and agency designed to create successful media outcomes
  • Builds and nurtures strong relationships with healthcare reporters and producers at major national media outlets, as well as healthcare trade media
  • Partners closely with an international team of media relations professionals at UPS and the company’s international agencies to drive consistent messaging and global media relations campaigns
  • Partners on social media strategy for UPS healthcare in close coordination with other functions and business units, ensuring the company's and UPS healthcare’s key business priorities and main messages are persistently executed and measured
  • Cultivates deep understanding of the company's business model, strategic direction, and corporate goals to develop long-term communications plans
  • Manages the development of fact sheets, Q&As, etc., to educate media on international business issues and UPS capabilities
  • Promotes and guides the development of thought leadership materials in support of UPS healthcare business objectives for placement in publications to reach targeted customer segments
  • Coordinates between functions, on a fast-track basis, to respond to news media under tight deadlines to enhance and protect UPS’s reputation
  • Manages resources and people processes to ensure the day-to-day administration of processes and formal procedures
  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual/team development


  • Directs, motivates and inspires a diverse set of communication managers, supervisors, and administrative professionals on common goals
  • Displays comfort at working in a matrixed organization, influencing, and building strong cross-functional relationships
  • Possesses experience working directly with senior leadership teams in media relations capacities
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with communication measurement strategies, tactics, tools, and processes
  • Applies experience gained in developing strategic initiatives to increase awareness across global products and/or services, while promoting a positive corporate image of customer and product capabilities/solutions
  • Writes/edits press materials and social media posts (e.g., press releases, talking points, Q&A's, position papers, bylines, social posts and other externally focused documents)
  • Demonstrates experience working with major media outlets in all formats (broadcast, print, online, social)
  • Leads relationships with the public relations and social media agencies
  • Experience or knowledge of Meltwater, Sprinklr, Adobe Marketing Suite and Photoshop
